Stewardship of a historic property requires respect for the past, attention to the present needs, and foresight for the future. The Property Ministry is charged with the upkeep, preservation and restoration of the Church, the Rectory, the Park and all the surrounding grounds.

We wrote in the April issue of The Phoenix that our Buildings and Grounds Committee was seeking ideas to address the ongoing problems the church has with the section of the park that is seeded with grass. (link) While the fencing we’ve had up for several months does deter a few dog owners, the majority are not respectful of our property. Many simply lift up the fencing or lower their animals over the fencing so the animals can get onto the grass. Beyond its failed functionality, the fencing really detracts from the appearance of the park, and dealing with the dog waste problems consumes the time and energy of our staff and rectors.

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.” Luke 14: 28-30
The mission of the Discernment Committee is to discern and articulate the needs, wishes, and desires of our parish in response to current and anticipated growth. Specifically, to envision what sort of building might better accommodate current membership and possible future growth, what changes would better reflect the needs of this parish as we worship, meet, learn and minister. This effort is the result of two years of introspection, questionnaires, one-on-one meetings, parish-wide discussions and a parish vote at three meetings held in February 2008. All parishioners are called to participate fully in our efforts as members of the Discernment Committee and/or its subcommittees. To sign up for this committee work, please visit the Growth web site.

Do you have a love of gardening? Interested in taking care of the Park?! ...Then we have a spot for you! Join a team of parishioners to help take care of the parish Park. A team is needed to volunteer for 2-hour "gardening dates" once a month to work on the park up-keep. We are also looking for an enthusiastic " Park Steward" to lead this team in their monthly efforts and make routine check-ups on the park throughout the month. Once a year in the Spring a bigger "planting day" and setting up the contracts for routine maintenance is a must for a flourishing green park!
