The Communications Ministry is responsible for ensuring that the
activities, policies and programs of the Church are communicated in a
concise and consistent manner through the newsletter, mailings,
seasonal brochures, etc. Members assist in the writing and production
of the newsletter, promote Church activities to the local media, design
signs and banners, edit special mailings, manage parish information
technology and systems, and supervise and maintain the parish website.
The deadline to submit material to be published in our newsletter is on Wednesday, every two weeks.

Albert Borgmann’s Technology and the Character of Contemporary Life (1984) contributed immensely to the emerging philosophical discussions of issues surrounding modern technology. He is a professor of philosophy at the University of Montana, specializing in the philosophy of technology. According to Borgmann technology is the key mediating factor in our interaction with the world, and commodification has become the central driving force, accompanied by ever new forms of technology.

I am a member of the Public Health Service which composes three federal agencies: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), The National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Center for Disease Control. NIH is largely an agency that is research oriented and FDA is largely a regulatory agency. I work for FDA in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research as Director of Small Business Assistance. As part of my responsibilities I scan the NIH website frequently for information that could be useful to small pharmaceutical businesses. While looking at the NIH website recently I became aware of a study supported by NIH involving older adults who were otherwise healthy and living independently received training focused on targeted cognitive skills.

A friend of mine took me to see a play called “The History Boys” a few weeks ago at the Studio Theatre and I thought, “Wow, all of this is just two blocks away from my place?” I enjoyed the performance so much that I looked into volunteering at the theatre the next time I had a weekend open and felt like trying something different.
