A Users' Guide for Episcopalians

It's sometimes said that progressive Episcopalians "don't believe in anything."
Of course, that isn't actually true. We share with Anglicans worldwide a belief in four basic principles of faith:

  • the Holy Scriptures, which contain all things necessary for salvation
  • the creeds (specifically the Apostles' and Nicene creeds) as a summary statement of the Christian faith
  • the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion
  • the historic episcopate, which means the leadership and guidance of bishops

The creeds offer the most concise summary of our beliefs; when we recite them at a Sunday service, we are affirming our beliefs together with believers all around the world.
