St. Thomas’ took a giant leap of faith this past weekend and any spiritual (or Olympic) judge would give us perfect marks for the faithful stewardship of our gifts.

Between our participation in the Pride events and our hosting of the celebration of covenanted relationships, we showed ourselves to be true evangelicals and living examples of God’s incarnate presence in the world.

We hosted several Episcopal parishes for a barbecue and then marched with Bishop Chane, who led our contingent in the Pride parade.  It was a ringing affirmation that - in the midst of the turmoil over gay issues in our church - our Diocese’s heart is in the right place.

The following day, St. Thomas’ broke liturgical ground by creating and celebrating a mass affirmation of couples in committed relationships. Couples of all stripes - gay and straight, young and old - declared their love for each other and declared that their love is modeled on the love Jesus Christ shares with each of us. 

Meanwhile, another group of parishioners bore witness at our booth in the Pride Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue, warmly greeting passers-by with a message of inclusion and welcome.

Many, many folks worked long hours to make the weekend of celebrations a huge success. We want to thank everyone who worked so hard to remind the world that love is the most powerful force God has given humanity.
