These food purchases pictured were made with the unused funds from the 2007 House of Ruth allocation. Over $245 was spent on jam, spices, fruit salad, tuna, cereal, lunch meat, peanut butter, tea bags, lemonade, ketchup and cooking oil – lots of oil!
House of Ruth provides food and shelter to women and children in several locations around DC. A lot of the women have experienced domestic violence that have forced them to find a safe haven to stay for a time. Every third Sunday at 10am in the St. Thomas Parish lobby a group of us head out to the House of Ruth Madison House location on 10th Street, NE and help Pat in the kitchen for about an hour or so. Contact Christine Parker Hunt to sign up. Photos by Greg DuRoss.
