			<title>My Experience on the Worship Committee</title>
			<link>http://www.stthomasdc.org/worship/my-experience-on-the-worship-committee.html</link>
			<description>
Since we have a rather brief newsletter this month, I thought I'd take the time to write about my own recent experiences serving with our Worship Committee. This committee is tasked with making sure our worship services flow smoothly from start to finish. They do everything from greeting us at the door; ushering us to our seats; reading the lessons; setting up the altar and cleaning up after we've all retired for coffee. This past Autumn I expressed my interest to Jack Reiffer in being One of those people who gets up and reads. Shortly thereafter I was placed on the Fall schedule to read one of the lessons and, to my intense anxiety and excitement; I saw my name on the schedule to be a Eucharistic minister a few weeks after!

			<title>Easy Bake Oven Users Read On...</title>
			<link>http://www.stthomasdc.org/worship/easy-bake-oven-users-read-on.html</link>
			<description>You've probably noticed that for quite a while now we've had home-baked bread for Eucharest. What you probably don't know is that it's very easy to make. In fact, it only takes an hour and fifteen minutes to make enough bread for two Sundays. The bread we use at St. Thomas' has six ingredients: whole wheat flour, oil, honey, water, baking powder and salt. the only unusual implements required are a cookie sheet and a rolling pin. This could almost be done in an easy bake oven, but the big one in your kitchen will work just fine.

			<title>Become A Part of Worship At St. Thomas' Parish</title>
			<link>http://www.stthomasdc.org/worship/become-a-part-of-worship-at-st.-thomas-parish.html</link>
			<description>

At the heart of congregational life is public worship. We gather to hear God&amp;rsquo;s Word and celebrate the Lord&amp;rsquo;s Supper (Eucharist) on Sundays at 9 AM, 11 AM, and 5 PM, and on Wednesdays at Noon.

Many persons are needed to make our worship services effective and meaningful for our members and visitors. For any of these tasks there is orientation and training available. Your interest in serving will be matched with our help in preparing you for these tasks.

			<title>Music Notes – Maurice Ravel</title>
			<link>http://www.stthomasdc.org/worship/music-notes-maurice-ravel.html</link>
			<description>
The congregation of St. Thomas' Parish is so appreciative of music that it is a true joy to serve as Music Director. On Sunday, July 27, the piano music of Maurice Ravel made a particularly strong impression with many, and so it seems appropriate to share a few details concerning the composer and his music.

			<title>Incense – A Note From Nancy Lee</title>
			<link>http://www.stthomasdc.org/worship/incense-a-note-from-nancy-lee.html</link>
			<description>
There have been several members of our parish who have asked me about the use of incense. I thought a summary from Marion J. Hatchett&amp;rsquo;s book, Commentary on the American Prayer Book, would be insightful for many of us. &amp;ldquo;This is the first edition of the Prayer Book (1979 BCP) to mention the use of incense&amp;hellip;In the ancient Jewish temple an incense offering was burned by the priest every morning and evening at the altar of incense located in front of the veil shielding the holy of holies. Incense, thought to have purificatory powers&amp;hellip;was a worthy expensive gift, thought to be pleasing to God and efficacious for the atonement of sins. Incense signified the ascent of prayers of the people to God. The smoke of incense is also seen in both the Old and New Testaments as the manifestation of God&amp;rsquo;s glory. Even Zechariah&amp;rsquo;s vision comes at the offering of incense.&amp;rdquo;
