The Rev. John Dwyer, Assistant Rector
The Rev. John F. Dwyer is the first assistant rector St. Thomas' Parish has hired in over 35 years. John served as the seminarian to St. Thomas' while he was attending Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from VTS in May of 2007. He was ordained to the transitional deaconate on March 10, 2007 and ordained an Episcopal priest on September 15, 2007 at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City by The Rt. Rev. Mark S. Sisk.
John's decision to follow a calling to ordained ministry came while he was practicing law in New York City and attending the Church of St. Luke in the Fields in Greenwich Village. He practiced law for 18 years. Prior to attending law school at St. John's University School of Law he taught history at a private girl's academy in N.Y.C. John is a graduate of Fairfield University in CT and Pelham Memorial High School in N.Y.
John's hobbies include: painting, drawing, crocheting, reading, city-walking, bicycling, and irregular attendance at the gym. His most favorite thing to do (outside of his ministry at St. Thomas') is to spend quality time with friends, family and loved ones.
He is the author of Those 7 References: A Study of 7 References to Homosexuality in the Bible.
