Bonhoeffer heard Jesus' words and dared us to believe they are true: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Bonhoeffer heard Jesus' words and dared dream that we might be the ones to hear Jesus say: ""Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing" and be the ones who know that this is true, because peace, even if it has not arrived, is being waged, not war, that enemies are being loved not hated, and justice is something we no longer believe we were entitled to at the expense of any other creature of God. Bonhoeffer dared believe this was not a maximum, but a minimum, statement of what it means to be a follower of Christ. And he dares us this evening to believe it too.
