St. Thomas’ Parish Vestry Meeting
A Message from the Vestry
of St. Thomas’ Parish DuPont Circle
The following resolution was agreed to
unanimously with a quorum present.
In
the name of God, through Jesus Christ and with the Holy Spirit, the
Vestry of St. Thomas’ Parish offers our profound thanks and appreciation
to the many members of St. Thomas’ Parish who have participated for the
past five years of discernment and planning concerning the construction
of a new sanctuary for St. Thomas’ Parish. In
particular, we are very grateful to all those who, over the past twelve
months, have used all of their God-given talents to further the work and
mission of St. Thomas’ to be a church for anyone looking to find and be
found by God. We also thank humbly, all those who have
committed financial resources to the future vision of St. Thomas’
Parish.
We,
your Vestry, recognize the diverse opinions of parishioners on how to
move forward. Mindful that there are many obstacles to
come, and challenges to meet, we are convinced that the Holy Spirit has
guided us to this important moment in our history. We
enthusiastically thank the Building Committee for their recommendations.
And
we therefore, we resolve the following:
To move forward in completing all of the designs of the new
sanctuary including permitting fees and continuing the architect’s
contract with modification. In the event of an emergency
or extreme loss of funding, and in keeping with our fiduciary duties to
the parish, we reserve the right to halt the building process,
respecting any existing contractual obligations.
Further, we ask the External Fundraising committee to continue
its work, request an appropriate budget and work plan with reporting for
the next year by the July 2010 vestry meeting.
We
ask the Building Committee to draft by our July 2010 vestry meeting an
oversight plan for the next 12 months.
We
also authorize the senior warden with the junior warden and treasurer to
explore and pursue the option of financing with a reputable financial
institution, to ensure the sanctuary building time-line can be met
without delay and to preserve valuable assets the Parish may wish to
protect.
We
extend our deepest thanks to the leaders of our internal and external
fundraising and building committees for enormous work and dedication and
we thank each member of the parish for your support and prayers in this
process.
We
now invite all members of the parish to consider how each of you may
contribute your many gifts to the work of our parish and encourage you
to engage more deeply your own role in encouraging our neighbors, our
city and our nation to Grow with Us.
May
almighty God, bless, keep, hold and lead St. Thomas’ Parish.
