Sunday mornings at St. Thomas' are a unique experience. A spacious, airy room. Chairs in a semi-circle around a carved wood altar. One hundred people gathered for the Eucharist. Simple liturgy, exquisite music. Gifted preachers and lectors. The choir in street clothes. The arrangement of chairs brings an abiding sense of community. The hymns fill the space with the rich sound of the congregation's singing (and we do all sing!).
St. Thomas' has a rich history as the Episcopal parish at the heart of Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. From our founding in the late 1890's, the parish has sought to bring God's love to our neighbors through an array of programs, events, and community outreach efforts.
We are a welcoming congregation that worships in a nontraditional sanctuary, but with a liturgy that is true to the spirit and, largely, the letter of the 1979 edition of The Book of Common Prayer.
The parish strives to provide radical hospitality to everyone we serve and share our vision of progressive Christianity with our neighbors both in DC and around the world. We invite you to explore this website, join in one of the many discussion taking place on our mailing lists and in the Voices section of our site, contact our staff, or stop by to visit us one Sunday.
